Description
Africat
is currently being hailed as one of the best
quality and performing power Cats on the market.
These vessels have high quality finishes, along with
luxury and quality that ensures this power catamaran
to stand out from the pack.
Mid salon
there are mirror image stairways that lead down into
the hulls. Three wide stairs with courtesy lights
and grab handles invite you into the accommodation
area. In the three-cabin owner's version the two guest
staterooms on the port side are identical to the four-cabin
version.
However,
in the starboard hull the owner's stateroom reigns.
Fit for a king or queen, this cabin
has hanging lockers and drawer space galore. Aft,
at the foot of the king-sized bed is a vanity/dressing
table with a long mirror and a seat. The entire cabin
can be closed off from the salon for maximum privacy.
Actual Condition
Hull number 17 of the Afri Cat 420 series power catamaran,
with twin Volvo IPS 500 drive systems each with counter-rotating
propellers and electronic engine and drive controls.
Interior layout includes an owners
stateroom with head in the starboard hull;
two staterooms and head in port hull; large salon
with U-shaped galley, large dinette, nav. center.
Equipment includes a Village Marine 600 GPD Watermaker,
reverse cycle AC, davit on the foredeck. Hull &
deck construction is molded fiberglass with balsa
sandwich core material, solid fiberglass below the
waterline.
The vessel
was holed in the area of the starboard Volvo IPS drive
unit, and was partially submerged to near the mid
of the salon as it rested on the bottom in shallow
water. The flying bridge and davit on the foredeck
were reportedly not submerged. Following the loss,
all holding and potable water tanks were emptied and
the interior and exterior cleaned and detailed. Soiled
cushions and coverings were discarded.
The electronic/navigation
equipment on the flying bridge was undamaged and immediately
removed for safekeeping; complete with (2) Raymarine
E120 multifunction units, Raymarine autopilot, Ray
240 VHF, Volvo Penta engine readouts, radar array,
inlayed table, cushions, 12VDC panelboard, windlass
and remote spot/flood light control, Panasonic DVD
deck and (5) speakers, Raymarine ST 60 multi and AWI,
compass, cushions, various other accessories. Some
of the wiring was cut short during removal and may
need to be remade.
All electric,
electronic, and navigation components and associated
wiring below the top of the salon were submerged.
This would include all pumps, reverse cycle units,
watermaker, 120VAC & 12VDC appliances, complete
shore power systems, 120VAC & 12VDC panelboards,
all lighting, batteries, inverters, shore power systems,
fire, LPG systems, etc. Submerged navigation equipment
includes (1) Raymarine E120 multifunction unit, other
repeater instrumentation (separate from the fly bridge),
various processors and transducers. The salon/cockpit
door was broken out by the movement of water through
the cabin area. It is reported this has been replaced
with a temp plywood door with hasp and lock.

and determine their actual condition.
